- History: The meaning of the name of Burpengary derived from the Aboriginal word Burpengar, – which is, the place of ‘The Green Wattle Tree.’ Europeans first settled in Burpengary in the 1870s, and back then, the industry was mainly timber-cutting.

Getting There and Around

To Brisbane: You have some great options here – you can drive, which is just under the hour mark, at approximately 40 or so minutes, many people opt for public transport, to catch up on reading and to make life slow down.
To the Sunshine Coast: Once again, there are a few options here. Whether it be driving the family vehicle, or catching the bus or train, the beautiful Sunshine Coast is only a mere 45 minutes commute, similar to the distance to Brisbane city.
To Caboolture: Only a stone’s throw away, Caboolture is like Burpengary’s big brother, with many residents commuting further to Caboolture, or accessing healthcare requirements at the Caboolture Hospital, most people opt for driving or catching the bus as the recommended public transport option.
Via Car Vs Public Transport
To Brisbane – Via car – 39km. Public transport takes that bit longer and there are often more connections or organisation and planning ahead required, but not choosing to drive, also does the environment a small favour as well, each and every time, saving precious carbon footprints and doing our bit, to “stay green”.
To Sunshine Coast – Via car – 42km.

Burpengary Train Station
The Burpengary Train Station has much history with the area, and community residents can learn more about the station’s history, which saw a new concrete station shelter building approved for construction from 1916-1917. The railway line was duplicated from Narangba to Burpengary, and then onward to Caboolture. As part of the works, a new shelter shed was built at Burpengary and remains there today.
