Eurovision! The very name conjures visions of outlandish costumes, soaring vocals and great entertainment. No wonder it was the inspiration for Song Contest – The Almost Eurovision Experience, a hilarious interactive performance by KSP Theatre.

This show has everything – comedy, drama, outrageous costumes, amazing choreography, outstanding vocals and harmonies, spectacular tech and just a little bit of “naughty”.

Director and Stage Manager, Janelle Kerr, said she was looking for a challenge for herself, the cast and tech guru Russell Jensen.

“This show has challenges for all of us,” Janelle said. “Eurovision is a massive spectacle, and this show needs similar.

Audiences will be entertained from the moment they walk into KSP Theatre, until the moment they leave.”

Song Contest

The Almost Eurovision Experience is essentially a smaller version of Eurovision. The 11 countries of Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Italy, Iceland, Ireland, the UK, Ukraine and Norway compete for the top spot. All songs are original and in keeping with the spirit of the real Eurovision.

In Act 1 all the countries perform their songs and then Act 2 is all about the voting, including audience participation. The MC (played by Chantelle Currie) and her sidekick (played by Kelly Stevenson) keep things moving with attitude and all sorts of cheeky (sometimes naughty) commentary throughout the show.

Contestants are played by a stellar cast including Eli Ball, Shaun Matthews, Adelle Adlington, Neve Isles, Samantha Forsyth, Sharen Walkerden, Natalie Howie, Donna Woollard, Lucas Young, Larna Harris, Paige Brearley, Amanda Jensen, Jake Nicholson and Rachael A’Brook.

The players are backed up by an incredible creative team to bring this magical mayhem to the audience.

Janelle said she was very lucky to be working with such a dedicated cast and crew who work tirelessly to bring her vision to the stage.

“Audiences should come to see just how marvellous these people are and to let their hair down and enjoy some hilarious musical theatre,” Janelle said.

Audiences will also enjoy a delicious supper including foods from all competing countries.
