Our teenage girls face a lot of choices and challenges!

There is no doubt that being a teenager in this modern world is more confusing than ever and many struggle in the face of pressure from all directions. But where do you go for help that your teen girl will fully embrace?

The special relationship between girls and horses is well known but not everyone has a horse. However, thanks to the support of the Bribie Island Lions Club, two groups of teenage girls (aged 14-18) can experience an equine-assisted learning workshop with Herd Together Inc at Bellmere free of charge this month.

President and Head Facilitator of Herd Together Inc, Katrina Nicol said the donation from the Lions Club would help assist young ladies who could then start conversations within their friend groups about turning their challenges into strengths.

Building Confidence Through Equine Interaction

“The horses foster safety, trust and making connections,” Katrina said. “Being in their presence helps with social awareness, calms anxiety and improves problem-solving skills.

“At this school holiday workshop, the girls will experience beautiful equine interaction, mindfulness, body language awareness, the power of non-verbal communication and social building skills.

“They learn some personality profiling so they can understand themselves and others better, and use this knowledge to improve their communication. This can make all the difference in equipping a young lady with the confidence to stand up for herself and say ‘No’ to some situations, rather than follow the crowd into a situation that puts her at risk.”

Being in the presence of horses, and present with the horse, naturally develops mindfulness. There is no past or future to worry about – there is simply the peace, beauty and joy of the special connection between horse and human.

The Teen Girls Workshop is specifically designed to help participants build self-confidence, embrace their unique strengths and cultivate resilience. Participants also learn emotional regulation, natural horsemanship skills and safety around horses.
