It’s time for another election and this time, the state government has residents heading for the polls.

On Saturday, 26 October, residents across the seat of Morayfield will have the chance to cast their vote from a choice of five candidates.

Mark Ryan was elected as the Member for Morayfield at the 2015 election (having previously served as the MP from 2009-2012) and was re-elected at the 2017 and 2020 elections. He also currently serves as Minister for Police and Community Safety.

“I’m so proud of all the work we have done here in the Morayfield-Caboolture Region over the last four years,” Mr Ryan said. “We’ve opened a massive redevelopment of Caboolture Hospital, the new Caboolture Satellite Hospital, the new Morayfield ambulance station and our brand new PCYC is now under construction.”

If re-elected, Mr Ryan said the Labor government would continue to deliver for the community, including a new $5 million Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre, ensuring a new $9 million Caboolture Snakes Rugby League Clubhouse was built and providing more cost of living relief, like reduced fuel prices.

“My record shows that you can trust me to keep working hard every day for our region,” Mr Ryan said.

LNP candidate Sarah Ross has grown up in the local area, going to school, TAFE and working here for most of her life. She is also raising her own family here and if elected, said she promised to work hard to make a difference for everyone.

“Like many of you, I want my family to grow up in a safer community, get a quality education, play sport and be able to own their own home one day,” she said. “I am a passionate supporter of our community and the incredible work our local businesses, sporting and community organisations and volunteer groups do to support one another.

“Facing difficult circumstances and overcoming them is why I’m an all-round believer in serving my community and implementing programs that see real results and change lives. I’m honoured to be fighting for Morayfield and I will work hard to make sure your concerns are heard.”

One Nation candidate Rodney Hansen has a nearly 40-year career in small business and is involved in various community organisations, including the Ratepayer Group, Moreton Bay Safe Communities, The Circle of Men and The Men’s Shed.

Rodney said he was an advocate with a long-standing interest in politics, who promised to fight for his community’s voice. He said he was determined to address pressing issues such as crime, drug use and youth unemployment.

“I’m passionate about Morayfield and I’ve dedicated my career to delivering for our community,” Mr Hansen said.

Greens candidate Mark Jessup originally hails from Townsville. He said he set out to find “home” in 2016 after his beloved Cowboys won their maiden premiership and settled in the local region after seeing vast potential.

Throughout his working career, Mr Jessup said he had gravitated toward leadership roles with a great understanding of the value of relationships and caring about the future. He said the Greens had plans for public and affordable housing and services that the community needed, such as free childcare and properly funded schools and hospitals.

“I have always been sceptical of politics and held the belief that politicians operated in their own interests, so I thought it was time to make a change and give people the option to vote for someone who will work for them,” he said.

Suniti Hewett will be running as the candidate for the Family First Party. Suniti said she believed strong families, freedom for faith and protecting the most vulnerable were critical for the future of the community and the state. She said protecting children from inappropriate sexual and gender indoctrination and shielding families from rising power bills due to renewables were the top campaign priorities for the Family First Party.

Voting is compulsory for anyone aged 18 and over. To find your nearest polling booth, to enrol to vote or for further information, visit Electoral Commission Queensland website.
