A major redevelopment is in the works for the Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre.
The redevelopment of the George Street site will increase the amount of modern, accessible and inclusive floor space available for centre activities. The Queensland government announced that a notional construction budget for the project has been locked in and construction is scheduled to commence next year.
The Neighbourhood Centre Caboolture Inc (trading as Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre) was incorporated in June 1992. They have been at 9 George Street, Caboolture since 2009. News of the redevelopment has been well-received by Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre managing director Malcolm Thompson.
“We welcome this exciting news of a purpose-built facility that will enable the Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre to expand its support services and to provide support to a greater number of community members,” Mr Thompson said. “We have been seeking a purpose-built facility for some time, but yes, when the decision was made that a new neighbourhood centre would be built for this community it was unexpected and a very pleasant surprise.”
The centre provides a multitude of services to the expanding community.
“During the 2023/2024 financial year, 10,548 people contacted our reception by phone or face-to-face,” Mr Thompson said. “This statistic does not consider clients that directly contact the other programs delivered by the centre, estimated, this would be another 4000 to 6000.”
Expanding Support Services and Managing Disruptions
Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan spoke highly of the difference the neighbourhood centre made in the area.
“The people of Caboolture benefit from a wide range of services delivered through their neighbourhood centre, ranging from programs to increase community connectedness to free budgeting advice for families struggling to make ends meet,” Mr Ryan said. “Caboolture is growing fast and we need community infrastructure to keep pace with the increasing demand that growth brings.
“By replacing old with new, we can provide quality physical infrastructure that all community members, young and old, can access and benefit from.”
It is hoped there will be minimal disruptions to the centre’s services while construction is in progress.
“We will be moving to another local site, so the disruption to services may only be for a short period of approximately two weeks considering removal and setup,” Mr Thompson said. “I see a short return similar to the COVID-19 days, where the counsellors will work from home to provide the support and guidance to counselling clients.”
Work on the centre is expected to begin early next year and be completed by early 2026.
