If steam power and steampunk pique your curiosity, don’t miss this fabulous event!

The Caboolture Historical Village will present its third Heritage Day weekend on 17 and 18 May – and this year includes some very special features as they incorporate the Pine Rivers Historic Machinery Restoration Society Inc machinery rally.

Members from the Queensland Colonial Association will be providing re-enactments and adding colonial colour to the event as well, making it a wonderful day out for the whole family.

Marketing Manager of Caboolture Historical Village, Saskia Huismans said that Heritage Day celebrated the rich cultural traditions of the past and allowed people to discover the beauty of vintage machinery, cars and motorcycles.

“Demonstrations include spinning and weaving, lacemaking, leatherwork, wood turning, pyrography, blacksmithing and more,” Saskia said.

“With generous sponsorship from Alzino & Co Earthmoving, they are even bringing a beautiful steam-powered roller from the Steam and Small Engine Society.

Fun for All Ages with Steampunk, Music and More

“Kids can get hands-on with gem sieving at the Caboolture Gem Club, play old-fashioned games, watch a mini pony show, take a ride on our train, and other activities.”

For fans of steampunk style, keep an eye out for members of the Brisbane steampunk community as they wander the village. Many people in period costumes also attend and are happy to pose for photo opportunities. Better still – get right into the spirit of things by wearing a historically appropriate outfit yourself!

Saskia also said that there would be a variety of entertainment to keep every member of the family enthralled.

“With live entertainment from Celtic band Blarney Stone, Scottish traditional bagpipes from Redcliffe Pipes and Drums, 18th-century country dancing by Dance Kaleidoscope and fabulous bush poetry readings from North Pine Bush Poets there is something for everyone,” she said.

“Don’t miss the spectacular Grand Parade at 1pm on both days.”

Saturday will be the main day for most exhibitors, with motoring and machinery the main focus of Sunday. See the Caboolture Historical Village Facebook page for more information.

Entry tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids aged six to 16 years, with kids five and under free. For tickets, go to www.trybooking.com/DAEHT or purchase them at the gate.
