The fascination with all things ‘Mad Max’ will transcend time and space to roar into Caboolture Regional Art Gallery this month.

George Miller’s Mad Max film series started from humble beginnings as a low-budget road rage movie and evolved into the multi-genre dystopian franchise that continues to thrill old and new fans alike, including some of Australia’s most exciting artists.

Don’t miss the Maximum Madness Exhibition on its road trip honouring the influence of this cosplay favourite that draws on many aesthetics including biker, gearhead, sci-fi and more. Revel in the displays curated by Jonathan McBurnie as a diverse range of artists pays homage to Mad Max – one of Australia’s most iconic anti-heroes.

Featured artist Phoebe Paradise said the Maximum Madness exhibition was an incredible showcase of Australian contemporary artists’ work, celebrating the art of cinema.

“The Mad Max film series represents the very best of grimed-up ‘Roadsploitation’ out there – its costuming, set designs and post-apocalyptic Australiana has inspired artists and filmmakers alike for nearly half a century and is such fertile ground for a group show of this scale (and when I say scale I mean BIG!)” Phoebe said.

“I’m very honoured to be included in this show alongside superstars like Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan and Reg Mombassa. Patrons can expect some really show-stopping works.”

Other artists of note include Karike Ashworth, Martin Bell, Penny Byrne, Patrick Connor, Rod Coverdale, Alex Cowley, Emma Gardner, Shaun Gladwell and many more.

Interactive Art and Family Fun

Phoebe Paradise said she was also excited to be transforming the Hub Gallery into an interactive space for young artists and families.

“Here they can take part in this exhibition too; an ode to the history of film advertising and design,” Phoebe said. “Keep your eyes peeled for some upcoming workshops that you won’t want to miss.”

The free workshops include holiday crafts like the multimedia collage of a wasteland landscape and creating your own apocalypse armament from recycled materials just like in the barren world of Mad Max.

Caboolture Regional Art Gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
