Two generations of Moreton Bay musical talent are set to take centre stage when Beers & Beats Burpengary brings live music, craft beer and festival fun to Symphony Crescent Park.
For emerging Redcliffe artist Levi Xander, performing at the free community festival on Saturday, 17 October feels a little like coming home.
Having lived in Moreton Bay all his life, Levi has been performing in the local community for the past seven years, starting out at Redcliffe Markets when he was just 11. Since then, he has become a familiar face at major local events including Groovin’ in the Green, Jazz and Shiraz and Christmas carols.
“I love Moreton Bay and to play at another amazing event such as Beers & Beats means a lot, as it feels like playing at home,” Levi said.
Visitors can expect plenty of energy when Levi takes to the stage with his four-piece band, which includes his dad, older brother and drummer Nathan. The group will perform songs spanning decades and genres, putting their own distinctive spin on well-known favourites.
“We don’t want to play a carbon copy of a song,” Levi said. “We want to take the amazing songs that other artists have made and put our Levi Xander band spin on things.”
Levi, who first gained national attention on The Voice Australia, may also give audiences a taste of his original music.
Colt Thomas Jnr Joins the Local Lineup
Joining him on the local lineup is Colt Thomas Jnr, who performed at Beers & Beats last year. The popular acoustic artist, whose music spans country, blues and pop, said he was thrilled to once again perform on a major stage within the community he calls home.
“I’m very excited to get to do what I love to do in my area,” Colt said. “I appreciate Mask Events and the City of Moreton Bay for putting on these events, supporting local artists like myself.”
Known for his warm and honest performances, Colt said he aimed to connect personally with every song he performed.
“I was taught a long time ago, even if you cover someone else’s song, to find a way to relate to it, find your own story in the song so when you perform it, it becomes yours,” he said.
The event will also feature craft beverages (including Burpengary’s Buddy Brewing), food vendors, roving entertainment and activities for children.
