Dance the Nutbush and Make a Difference

When you choose not to look away from the struggles of others and do something to help, wonderful things can happen.

This month’s ‘Nutbush 2026’ fundraising event at the Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre invites the community to wear pink, dance to the iconic Nutbush song, and have fun while supporting the local charity The Forgotten Women.

The Forgotten Women helps ‘the hidden homeless’ – women over the age of 55 – by providing housing and other forms of support to help them live with dignity and age in safety.

Nutbush founder and event organiser, Kaz Bennett, said that as they prepared for an even bigger and better event than the inaugural Nutbush last year, she had reflected on what prompted her to not only notice these ‘hidden homeless’ women, but to do something to help.

“One morning, when I arrived at work to open the pool, I saw women sleeping in their cars,” Kaz said. “It stopped me in my tracks.

“I couldn’t stop thinking about what their lives must have been like and how easily circumstances can change for any of us.

“That moment stayed with me, and The Nutbush was born from it.”

Community Connection and Event Details

What started with heartbreak has become something special, bringing friends, workmates and the wider community together for a morning of dancing, laughter, friendship and connection, while remembering the women who don’t have a safe place to call home.

Kaz said the Nutbush fundraising event is about more than just dancing – it is also about kindness.

“It is about looking out for one another,” she said. “And it is about showing that when a community comes together with a good heart, we really can make a difference.”

The fundraiser has attracted support from individuals, businesses and organisations, including Morayfield Masonic Lodge and the charity arm of the United Grand Lodge of Queensland.

Local sponsors have contributed more than 20 raffle prizes, valued between $100 and $500.

Admission is $25. Raffle tickets are three for $15 – cash only. All proceeds will go to The Forgotten Women, whose representatives will be in attendance.
