While students enjoy the summer holidays, construction is underway at several local state schools as part of a Queensland Government program delivering new and upgraded sun safe outdoor facilities.
Across the state, more than $30 million is being invested in playgrounds, sports courts and outdoor learning spaces, with 80 schools benefiting from upgrades while classrooms are empty.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said state school staff and students would return to the new and upgraded outdoor infrastructure in the new year.
“While our schools enjoy their summer break, we will continue working to ensure our students and staff have fantastic new facilities to come back to,” Minister Langbroek said.
“Every Queensland student deserves access to a world-class education, regardless of where they live, and these upgrades help to deliver this.”
Moreton Bay Schools Receiving Holiday Upgrades
In the City of Moreton Bay, four local schools are included in the program, ensuring students return next year to safer and more functional outdoor areas.
Kurwongbah State School will receive a new shade shelter, providing much-needed protection from the sun during outdoor activities. Morayfield East State School is set to gain a new Prep to Year 1 outdoor learning area, while Petrie State School will see upgrades to the playground.
At Burpengary Meadows State School, new shade shelters and seating will be installed at the school bus stop, improving comfort and safety for students waiting to travel to and from school. Narangba Valley State High School will also benefit, with new shade structures and pathways aiming to enhance access and usability across the campus.
