Ready for lots of food, dancing and fun for the whole family in an atmosphere of inclusivity and harmony?
Rock on down to the Burpengary Jets Multicultural Day this month!
Event organiser and vice president of Burpengary Jets Rugby League Football Club, Shaun Slater, said this would be the second year they had held the Multicultural Day.
“Last year was really successful and we wanted to celebrate all the cultures of our members again,” he said.
“In recent years, we have had more Samoan, Indigenous, Māori and South Pacific Islands players join the club. Many will be taking part in the various dances.
“We have a jumping castle and ice-cream truck for the kids.”
Celebrating Culture, Community and Connection
The food includes meat and vegetables cooked in a hangi, Chinese and Fijian curries, frybread sliders (sweet and savoury) and more to tempt the taste buds.
In keeping with the embracing of cultures of club members, Shaun said this year’s jersey was designed by local Indigenous artist Bradley Beckett.
“It features the wattle trees and platypus of Burpengary Creek,” he said. “The meeting places represent ancestors setting up camp along the creek, and also the Jets’ family culture and how tight knit it is.”
Shaun said entry to the event was free.
“We love for the community to come and experience the beautiful vibe of the day,” he said.
