Step into a world of vibrant colour and delicate beauty at the Caboolture Orchid Society’s Winter Orchid Show this month.

It’s not just a floral feast for the eyes, it’s also a chance to learn some handy tips and hints about growing orchids at home. Everything from potting to watering and of course, fertilising, is on the agenda.

Caboolture Orchid Society Liaison, Robyn Denkel, has been growing orchids for years and said when it came to growing orchids, a lot of the process involved ensuring the environment suited the plant.

“Some orchids are happy growing in a tree without any assistance at all and others need care and protection, it’s just a matter of tweaking what suits where you are,” she said.

“You can overwater, underwater or have too much sun, they’re kind of the things that will kill your orchids. Sometimes if a plant is not happy in any particular position, you move it somewhere else and then you keep an eye on it.”

Hands-On Orchid Growing Advice and Demos

Club members, many with decades of growing experience, will be on hand with ‘Ask Me’ badges to offer tips and friendly advice. Live potting demonstrations and judge-led walk-and-talk sessions will also offer hands-on learning and rare insights.

Also at the show will be Jax and Rose Bonsai, and Airplants by Aaron, local community members who have products for sale, as well as Orchidaceous, a firm which stocks the Caboolture Orchid Society growing supplies.

Whether you’re just starting or already have a shade house full of orchids, you’ll definitely learn a thing or two.
