How do you reassure your child that everything will be okay when you and your partner are separating?
Many people face this challenge and worry about the inevitable changes to both their and their children’s lives.
Local author Sharyn Fisher said she wrote ‘My Homes’ 17 years ago for her daughter to help her adapt to her new life.
“It was for my daughter Emma,” Sharyn said. “She was four when her Dad and I separated and I wanted a book to read to her, to reassure her everything would be okay.
“We read it all the time and it became one of her favourites. I’ve now published it, so it helps other parents and children navigate this difficult time.
A Comforting Book for Changing Families
“‘My Homes’ gives children comfort in knowing that things will change in their life but they will always be loved and feel safe – this message is repeated in the book to make this point.
“It points out that change doesn’t mean things have to be negative. It means children will still have a special bond with their parents, but it will be at different houses, places and maybe with different people.”
