Join the fun of dancing to ‘Nutbush City Limits’ to help house homeless women!

The community is invited to come together in the joyful action of dance while supporting the work of The Forgotten Women on Sunday, 31 August.

Event organiser, Kaz Bennett, said when she first saw the ad for The Forgotten Women on social media, she was visiting her mum.

“We spoke about how my mum was the same age as these women sleeping in their cars and living in tents in the back of friends’ properties,” Kaz said.

“As I learned more, the stories of older women suffering in silence – forgotten by systems, overlooked by society, and left behind in times of crisis – really hit home.

“The Forgotten Women charity exists to change that.”

Raising Awareness Through Dance and Community

The Forgotten Women is a grassroots housing initiative for homeless women over 55.  The project’s mission is to ensure as many of these vulnerable women as possible have access to secure, safe and affordable housing options that enable them to age with dignity.

Kaz said she herself could have become homeless.

“Life can change in a single second,” she said. “For some, it’s a diagnosis, an accident, a divorce, a failed business, or a sudden loss. For me, it was losing my beautiful son in 2018 to suicide.

“In that instant, our world shattered. The months that followed were very dark, and I truly believe things could have turned out very differently without the support of parents, friends and a financial counsellor.

“But not everyone has those lifelines, so we want to help.”

Kaz also expressed gratitude to the event sponsor, Changing Seasons, who are donating 200 The Forgotten Women sun visors, which will be for sale at $15 each.

Everyone is asked to give $20 cash on the day or donate online. Representatives of The Forgotten Women will be attending the event. Wear a pink shirt, stay for breakfast and enjoy the great company.

“The Nutbush is more than just fun, it’s a familiar dance – a celebration of rhythm and unity,” Kaz said.

“Through kindness and compassion, we can make a difference”
