Some of Australia’s top bull riders will return to the City of Moreton Bay next month as the PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour heads back to Caboolture.
This year, the event will see riders compete for a share of $20,000 in prize money as they take on some of the country’s toughest bucking bulls.
Last year, Tamworth rider Lachlan Slade claimed the Caboolture Invitational title. He said returning to Caboolture was always special because of his connection to the venue.
“It’s always great coming back to the Caboolture Invitational,” he said. “It’s close to home for me now, and there’s a bit of history there for me. I was riding calves there when I was about 12 years old, so it’s pretty special to return.
“Last year, I hadn’t been on a bull in over a month, but it all worked out in the end, and I took home the event buckle.”
Lachlan said he first got into the sport because he loved getting on calves out at his pop’s place when he was younger.
“What I love most about bull riding is the challenge of getting on the rankest bulls,” he said.
“Just as importantly, it’s the mateship. Travelling with your mates is something I’ll always remember. Most of those blokes have retired now, but they were good times.”
PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour events see competitors attempt to stay aboard a bucking bull for eight seconds, with riders and bulls both scored on their performances.
The evening will also feature the PBR Junior Academy before the main competition, giving spectators the chance to watch the next generation of bull riding talent in action. The academy provides young riders with an opportunity to develop their skills and gain experience in front of a crowd before progressing through the ranks of the sport.
Riding Toward the Main Event
The Caboolture part of the PBR tour, which takes place at the Queensland State Equestrian Centre (QSEC) Arena on Saturday, 29 August, forms part of the national series, with riders competing throughout the season in pursuit of championship points and prize money.
