St Columban’s College has celebrated a successful Trimester 2, with the Caboolture school claiming both the 2026 TAS Netball Champion School and Rugby Champion School titles.

Across the competition, St Columban’s netball teams recorded 52 wins, while the rugby program finished with 28 victories, highlighting the performance of teams across both sports.

Rugby Head of Department Jack Lane said the achievements reflected years of dedication from students, coaches and families.

“Success at this level reflects a whole school effort and gives the entire community something to be proud of,” he said.

Head of Netball Julie Atkins said the dual titles were a proud moment for everyone connected with the College.

“Netball and Rugby taking out Champion School in the same year shows the strength of our sport program from top to bottom,” Julie said. “It’s a real point of pride for students, staff and families alike.”

A Season Built on Teamwork

The results followed a season focused on hard work, teamwork and supporting one another.

Sports Coordinator Brook said the players’ commitment to the fundamentals made all the difference.

“Week in, week out, our teams executed the fundamentals under pressure, which is what separates a good season from a championship one,” Brook said.

For student athletes, the season will be remembered as much for the friendships and shared experiences as the silverware.

Netball player Kate Jeffrey said every match helped shape the team’s journey.

“It’s not always about the final result that is shown on the scoreboard. But it’s the fight, the journey and the way we challenged teams who didn’t expect it,” she said.

For rugby student Bailey, one of the highlights was Pink Round, when players, families and supporters came together for breast cancer awareness.

“I loved getting ready with my teammates, planning for the game and hyping each other up,” Bailey said. “We knew it was going to be a tough match, but everyone gave it their all and never gave up, which made it a really special experience.”

With Trimester 3 now underway, St Columban’s students are turning their attention to football, basketball, volleyball and athletics.
