When local artist Jenny Cruice visited her father, Stan Bellingham, at Beaumont Care Wamuran, she saw an opportunity in a collection of ageing paintings hanging on the walls.
After speaking with Beaumont Care management, an idea began to take shape. What started with five volunteer artists from the Artisans’ Guild of Caboolture and Districts has since grown into The Beaumont Project, with 26 Guild members now donating their time, materials and artistic talents to refresh the facility’s paintings.
For Jenny, the project has always been about more than paint.
“I hope the paintings inspire memories,” she said regarding the many Beaumont Care residents who live with dementia, including her father.
“It’s important for them to keep those memories for as long as they can.”
A Creative Partnership with Heart
One of the project’s highlights is a large collaborative artwork featuring a tree. Guild artists are creating the tree itself, while Beaumont Care residents are making the leaves, becoming part of the creative process.
The finished piece will stand as a symbol of the partnership between residents, families and the local community.
Gay, from Beaumont Care’s Lifestyle team, said that creative programs and community partnerships played an important role in making aged care environments feel vibrant and connected.
“They create opportunities for conversation, engagement and a sense of belonging,” Gay said.
Artisans’ Guild President Claire Morgan said the response from members was overwhelming.
“What started as a small project quickly grew,” she said. “Our members have embraced the opportunity to use their talents in a meaningful way and create something that will bring enjoyment to others.”
A special morning tea is planned for later this year, during which residents and artists will come together to celebrate the completed works.
While the paintings themselves are not for sale, their value lies elsewhere.
Soon they will return to Beaumont Care’s walls, where they may spark a conversation, inspire a memory or simply brighten someone’s day.
