The Power of Showing Up: Why Networking Still Matters for Local Business

With Nick Steiner, GCCC President

In a region as fast-growing as ours, it’s tempting to think business success comes down to a good product and a solid ad spend. But some of the best opportunities still come from the room, not the algorithm.

Networking isn’t about collecting business cards. It’s about building real relationships with people who understand your industry, your challenges, and your local market. A referral from another business owner carries more weight than any online review – because it comes with trust already built in.

For new business owners especially, walking into a Chamber event for the first time can feel daunting. But that first conversation is often where the value starts: a supplier introduction, a mentor, a customer, or simply someone who’s solved the exact problem you’re facing right now.

It also works both ways. The businesses that get the most out of networking aren’t just there to sell – they’re there to listen, offer help, and build a reputation as someone worth doing business with. That reputation compounds over time, long after the event itself is forgotten.

The Greater Caboolture Chamber of Commerce runs regular events designed to make those connections easy – from breakfasts to workshops to informal catch-ups. If you haven’t been to one yet, that’s the first move.

Networking works. But only if you show up.

Five Reasons to Join a Chamber of Commerce

Running a business in our region can feel isolating. You face the same hurdles as everyone around you – navigating regulation, building connections, staying visible, and being heard. The Greater Caboolture Chamber of Commerce exists to change that. Here are five reasons to join.

  1. Your voice gets heard. Through collective advocacy, the Chamber represents members’ interests with local, state and federal government. One business raising a concern is easy to ignore. A united Chamber is not.
  2. You build real connections. Free monthly networking events create genuine relationships, not just a stack of business cards. These are the people who refer work, share advice, and back you when things get tough.
  3. You get seen. Members are promoted across Chamber social media, including an introductory video for every new member. Visibility in a crowded market is hard to buy and easy to gain here.
  4. You grow your capability. Members access training, workshops, briefings and business insights designed to help you adapt and thrive, not just survive.
  5. You strengthen the whole region. When local businesses work together, everyone benefits. Backing the Chamber lifts the reputation and opportunity of Greater Caboolture – and that flows back to you.

The Greater Caboolture Chamber of Commerce represents businesses across Caboolture, Burpengary, Morayfield and surrounds – from sole traders and startups to corporations, not-for-profits and regional employers. At $100 a year, it’s one of the smartest investments you’ll make in your business. Add your voice. Build your network. Strengthen our region.Learn more

Are You on LinkedIn?

If you’re not on LinkedIn, you’re leaving money on the table.

LinkedIn is your digital resume, your business profile and your always-on networking tool – all in one place. It’s where business happens before the meeting, after the handshake and everywhere in between.

Think of your LinkedIn profile as your shopfront. It tells the world who you are, what you do and why they should work with you. Unlike a website that people need to search for, LinkedIn puts you in front of the right people – potential clients, referral partners, suppliers and collaborators – without you needing to chase them.

Your profile is also a living record of your business journey. Every project you complete, every milestone you hit and every service you offer can be documented and shared. That history builds credibility and trust over time.

Here’s something worth remembering: it takes more than 20 touchpoints before someone decides to buy. LinkedIn keeps you front of mind between those touchpoints. Every post you share, every comment you make and every article you write is a touchpoint that moves someone closer to choosing you.

The Greater Caboolture Chamber of Commerce encourages all members to be active on LinkedIn. When you meet someone at one of our networking events, connect with them on LinkedIn that same day. Stay in their feed. Let them see your work, your wins and your value.

Yes, it’s another platform. But unlike the others, LinkedIn is built for business.

Make it an asset. Start today.

Is Your Business Ready for What’s Next?

With Chamber President Nick Steiner

Across our region, businesses are already feeling the impact of rising fuel costs – from increased transport expenses to shifting customer behaviour and disrupted supply chains. Yet recent discussions with local operators revealed a concerning insight: only 1 in 6 businesses currently have a risk and mitigation plan in place.

The reality is simple – it’s business as usual…until it’s not.

Risk planning doesn’t need to be complicated. At its core, it’s about asking: If something changes, how do we respond? Who is involved? What do we need? Whether it’s fuel price spikes, supply shortages, staffing challenges or changing customer demand, having a plan in place allows businesses to respond quickly, stay calm, and remain in control.

We are already seeing how quickly conditions can shift. Some local businesses are benefiting from increased ‘stay local’ spending, while others reliant on tourism, transport, or fixed pricing are facing growing pressure on margins. Supply chain challenges are also emerging, with rising costs affecting farmers, distributors, and ultimately, the availability and price of goods.

The difference between businesses that survive and those that struggle will come down to preparation.

Taking just one hour to map out key risks, involve your team, and put simple processes in place can make a significant difference in how your business responds under pressure.

Three Months In — An Exciting Year Ahead for Local Business

We are already three months into the year, and the Greater Caboolture Chamber of Commerce has an exciting line-up of events and opportunities for local business owners.

One of the highlights will be our “Accessing the Olympics” event in November, helping businesses understand how they can position themselves to benefit from the opportunities surrounding the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. We’ll also be hosting events connected to the new RHC City development, one of the most significant projects shaping the future of our region.

Caboolture and the wider Moreton Bay region are experiencing significant growth, and there has never been a more important time for businesses to have a strong voice. As a Chamber, we actively advocate on behalf of our members to local, state and federal governments, ensuring our business community is heard and supported.

Local Connections: Breakfast Networking and Pub Chats

If you’re curious about the Chamber, we invite you to come along to one of our monthly free catch-ups. Our popular Breakfast Networking events are held at Gather & Feast, while our evening Pub Chats take place at Buddy Brewing. These relaxed sessions often feature our “Fab Four” local councillors – Cr Adam Hain, Cr Brooke Savige, Cr Mark Booth and Cr Tony Latter – and occasionally Mark Ryan MP and Terry Young MP, providing valuable opportunities for local businesses to connect directly with decision-makers.

Our dedicated Chamber committee is passionate about supporting local businesses to connect, grow and succeed.

If you’re ready to expand your network and be part of the region’s business future, visit the membership section of our website and join today at Greater Caboolture at Chamber of Commerce.
