In a community that likes to help others, the team at Buddy Brewing in Burpengary is no exception. 

For two years, Buddy Brewing has been a gathering point, a place where stories are shared, friendships are built, and when life gets heavy, people show up for one another. This month, the Buddy Brewing team is doing exactly that, holding a fundraiser on Saturday, 14 March in support of one of their own. 

Tammen Willmott is the artist behind every can that rolls out of the brewery, creating the artwork that gives Buddy Brewing its unmistakable identity.  

Director and Venue Manager Divaan Ireland said Tammen was the kind of creative who is “given an idea and turns it into something special, every single time”.  

“Tammen’s wife, Jess, was first diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago,” Divaan said. “Then, not long ago, they found she had a lesion on her brain, and it was likely terminal, which is not good news for any family. We know she underwent some pretty radical treatment. It’s expensive, exhausting and relentless, and we wanted to do something to help them out.”  

Alongside the emotional toll, there are everyday costs, medical travel and the constant pressure of trying to keep life steady for their kids. So, Buddy Brewing knew it was time to rally the community to help give back to this amazing family. Sadly, Jess lost her brave battle and passed away on 5 February.

How to Support the Willmott Family Fundraiser

Although a GoFundMe was already raising money for the family, the Buddy Brewing crew have set a goal to raise $20,000 on top of that. Two dollars from every drink sold will go directly to the fund. All proceeds from t-shirt sales on the day will also be donated. A silent auction will include prizes such as signed canvases from Tammen, where you can name your price, and a one-of-a-kind jersey featuring all of Buddy’s beer artwork. 

Giving back isn’t new for Buddy Brewing, with the venue previously hosting charity walks and fundraisers for causes including mental health. 

“If you can donate, spread the word or just come in on the day for a drink and support this fundraiser, it all makes a big difference,” Divaan said.
