Textile lovers and history buffs are in for a treat this month, as the Queensland Lace Guild brings a special exhibition to Caboolture. The exhibition celebrates the intricate tradition of lace-making, showcasing the skill behind this timeless craft.

To be held from 6 to 28 September, the Queensland Lace Guild Exhibition will feature a stunning variety of lace, including bobbin lace, needle lace, tatted lace, knotted lace, crochet lace and knitted lace. Some pieces are more than 200 years old, and many have never been publicly displayed before.

Teresa Murphy, President of the Queensland Division of the Australian Lace Guild, said the event at Caboolture Historical Village would interest anyone who enjoyed textiles, history or handcrafted art.

“We are looking forward to demonstrating that the skills to make such wonderful art are still alive and have evolved to fit into the modern day,” Teresa said.

Preserving Craft for the Future

The exhibition will showcase antique lace alongside modern, wearable and whimsical pieces, demonstrating how the craft has changed over time, while remaining relevant.

“Each Saturday morning in September, members from the Queensland Lace Guild will be at the village demonstrating lace making and encouraging visitors to try their hand at bobbin lace,” Teresa said.

It’s a unique chance to learn about Queensland’s textile history, enjoy the mental health benefits of mindful creativity and help keep this traditional craft alive for future generations.
