Recognising Our Everyday Heroes

Courage, bravery and selflessness are at the forefront of what first responders do every day.

In our community, where their actions often go unseen, one special night each year shines a spotlight on those who step up when others are stepping back.

Since its inception in 2015, the First Responders Dinner has become a premier local event, not just for its celebratory atmosphere and recognition, but for the powerful reminder of the people who keep our community safe, healthy and supported every single day.

Proudly supported by the Lions Clubs of Morayfield and District and Caboolture North, along with the Rotary Club of Caboolture, the event honours the commitment of first responders across five key emergency service agencies, including Queensland Police, Ambulance, Fire and Emergency Services, the State Emergency Service and the Rural Fire Service.

Committee member Geoff Moor said he had been involved since day one.

“It’s a great initiative – it started with a small group effort and now it’s something these agencies look forward to every year,” he said. “It gives first responders the kind of recognition they rarely get.”

Each year, agencies nominate outstanding team members, submitting anonymous summaries of their contributions. A panel made up of two representatives from each service club then scores the entries based on merit alone, with all other information deliberately withheld to ensure unbiased judging.

“We’re not just patting backs here,” Geoff said. “These men and women deal with things the rest of us may never see in a lifetime, trauma, danger, disasters. This is about showing appreciation for the impact they make.”

Beyond the formalities, Geoff said it was common to see uniformed officers networking across departments, laughing, sharing stories and building bonds that extend well beyond their usual work zones.

“There’s a really positive atmosphere in the room, it’s their night to celebrate,” he said.

Each nominee receives a framed certificate, while the winners are presented with a commemorative trophy and a $100 gift voucher, thanks to generous local sponsorship. But it’s clear that the real reward is the sense of pride and acknowledgment from their peers and the broader community.
