This month, local readers will have the chance to meet author Heather Reyburn as she shares the inspiration behind her latest rural fiction series set in outback Australia and the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

She will appear at Burpengary Library on Tuesday, 12 May as part of City of Moreton Bay’s Meet the Author series.

Heather said she has had a lifelong love of libraries.

“Growing up, we didn’t own a television and lived rurally, so our fortnightly trip to the library was a highlight,” she said. “My parents were prolific readers, and before I could read fluently, I don’t remember ever going to bed without being read to first.

“Since I began writing six years ago, I have enjoyed many library talks and trips to outback Queensland, where I could share my books and enthusiasm with like-minded readers and writers.”

Heather Reyburn grew up in New Zealand and is now based near Toowoomba on the Darling Downs. Her rural lifestyle has inspired her to write stories that blend history, suspense and memorable characters. She has written fourteen rural novels over four series. Her most recent novel, Dust on the Heather, was released in December as the second book in her three-part Outback Skye series. The upcoming third instalment, The Crofter’s Song, is scheduled for release in June.

“The three-book series shares the lives of three mature-aged women who shared a room at boarding school in Toowoomba during the late 1970s, early 1980s,” Heather said. “Lucy begins the series with Letters in Blue, a dual timeline and emotional story of love, loss and second chances. Dust on the Heather is Helen’s story – one of relief, heartbreak and again, second chances.”

Heather said she was looking forward to meeting readers at Burpengary Library on 12 May.

“I can’t wait to share the snippets of inspiration for my books – my lifetime of farming, a working holiday on the Isle of Skye and a whole lot of personal experiences, sorrows, joys and terror that have helped me fuel my stories,” she said.

Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Heather’s books.
