Would you love to grow your own food but aren’t sure how to start or what to plant? The freshly formed group Permablitz Caboolture may be your pathway to a greener, healthier way of living.
Permablitz groups are free to join, follow permaculture design principles and focus on community building, learning and local food production. Their mission is to create productive, sustainable gardens while fostering connections with like-minded individuals. They also follow the permaculture ethics of earth care, people care and fair share.
How Permablitz Caboolture Is Building Sustainable Community Gardens
Founder of Permablitz Caboolture, Clemens Krammer, said he knows what it is like to start from scratch.
“My wife Žaneta and I both come from families who grew food but in much cooler climates,” Clemens said. “Moving from Melbourne to Queensland a few years ago, we had no idea what to grow here.
“We got help to plan our Burpengary East property from the Maleny Permablitz group, as it was the closest. Before long, quite a few families from here were travelling to the Sunshine Coast. After two years, it was clear the Caboolture area needed its own group, so we started one.”
According to Clemens, everyone is welcome, from seasoned gardeners to young families just starting out, and everyone in between. Permablitz events are where the group designs and implements eco-friendly gardens, runs hands-on workshops, or carries out permaculture-related activities in the community.
Clemens said a sense of connection and shared purpose is what drew him to permaculture in the first place.
“Permaculture is about learning systems that work with nature, rather than against it,” he said. “As an engineer, I love systems – and what excites me most is seeing how water, soil, plants and people all connect. Get the design right and the land starts working for you, not the other way around.
“It’s very much a family thing. The kids socialise and come up with their own projects too.
“Together, we can make a positive impact – one garden, one family at a time!”
Details of where and when each Permablitz event will happen are sent privately to members. People interested in joining can do so via the Facebook group ‘Permablitz Caboolture’.
