September heralds warm spring days – and school holidays.
If you dread hearing, “Muuum, I’m bored”, or want to see your kids doing something other than being glued to their screens, here is where to find free, local events and activities to put a smile on everyone’s face.
City of Moreton Bay offers a variety of school holiday events and workshops at the council’s art galleries, libraries, museums, and environmental centres. There are many exciting opportunities, such as getting to pat a llama, meet and greet with reptiles, building LEGO superheroes, and other fun activities in Caboolture and Burpengary.
Venture a little further afield to Bribie, Redcliffe, North Lakes, or Pine Rivers, where activities include discovering bush tucker, creating mini replica models of Leonardo Da Vinci’s inventions, learning how to play Dungeons & Dragons, creating a fashion-inspired collage, and more.
For further information, including age range, if booking is required, how to book, etc, go to Moreton Bay school holidays wep page.
Playgrounds and Outdoor Fun
Like to get the kids outside? There is nothing like a great playground to encourage kids to exercise outdoors while having fun. Pack a picnic, toss a ball, ride the swings, climb the playground equipment – sit back and relax as you watch your kids play in the fresh air.
Discover these hidden gems:
Central Springs boasts Dawn Andrews Park – known as a climber’s paradise with its two towers. It has twin flying foxes, a wobbly bridge and swings for all ages as well.
Nearby Bluebell Street Park is ideal for teens with its basketball court, BMX track, fitness equipment and extensive walking paths, slides and other play equipment. There is an off-leash area for the family dog and electric barbecues for a sausage sizzle.
Lightwood Parkland in Caboolture South opened in 2023 and gets rave reviews for its multistorey fort with tunnel slide, swings and carousels, hopscotch and basketball, open spaces and picnic facilities.
Google ‘Moreton Bay Playgrounds’ for more places to create beautiful family memories.
Take advantage of the facilities and events provided by Council to keep the kids busy and happy these holidays without spending a cent!
