To commemorate The Salvation Army reaching 160 years, the Caboolture Historical Village will host a temporary exhibition from Saturday, 1 November, to Sunday, 25 January.
Visitors can explore the exhibition at the centre, discovering the rich history of the organisation.
President of The Salvation Army Historical Society – Brisbane Chapter, Garth Hentzschel, said the display would be developed from the theme, The Salvation Army Celebrating 160 years – Heart to God and Hand to Man.
“Visitors to the display will learn about the fascinating history of The Salvation Army and the recent discoveries from new research that is being conducted by members of The Salvation Army Historical Society – Brisbane Chapter and researchers connected to The Australasian Journal of Salvation Army History,” Garth said.
“Although The Salvation Army Caboolture Corps records its official commencement date as 3 March 1892, Salvationists were ministering in Caboolture at an earlier date.”
Exhibition Themes and Details
The exhibition will be divided into themed areas, highlighting the movement’s origins in England and Queensland, its music traditions, fascinating facts from across the years, and its wartime contributions. The organisation’s past and ongoing ministry in Moreton Bay will also be featured.
The exhibition will include five areas. Area One will be about the Army’s beginning and music making. Area Two will include cards and images on little-known historical and cultural facts about The Salvation Army. Area Three will outline the 100 years of Salvation Army work with soldiers during times of international military conflict. Area Four will delve into the social work The Salvation Army has done to help assist those in need and areas of social reform. Area Five will focus on the local district and on 19 locations in the Moreton Bay region where The Salvation Army has ministered.
Rarely seen artifacts, historical images, and previously unidentified information will be displayed at this exhibition.
Whether you are a long-time supporter of The Salvation Army, a history enthusiast, or simply looking for an interesting day out, this exhibition promises insight, inspiration, and a celebration of 160 years of service.
The exhibition can be viewed for free at the Caboolture Historical Village visitor reception centre. Entry to the village is $18 for adults, $15 for concessions, $10 for children aged six to 16, and free for children under five.
