The story of St Michael’s Soccer Club, now known as Caboolture Sports Football Club, began in 1969 during a period of growth and change for the Caboolture region.
At the time, Caboolture was a small agricultural town located between Brisbane’s northern edge and what was then known as the North Coast, and it was not yet considered part of a major sporting zone. That didn’t deter Father Francis of St Michael’s Church, who founded the club with a vision for organised local football and community connection.
Originally named St Michael’s Soccer Club, the team’s early matches were held at the Centenary Lakes fields, a site now used by Caboolture Rugby League.
By the early 1970s, the club was fielding as many as 35 teams, ranging from under-7s to senior men. Its rapid growth reflected both local enthusiasm and the rising popularity of football across regional Queensland.
In 1970, Caboolture won the premiership in the inaugural Sunshine Coast Reserve Grade competition. Despite some early aspirations to align with Brisbane football, the club entered the revived Sunshine Coast Second Division competition in 1974, joining teams from Caloundra, Maroochydore, Nambour Reds and Woombye.
That year, Caboolture led the ladder until late July before being overtaken by Nambour Reds, who would go on to win both the premiership and the grand final, defeating Caboolture 3-1.
A Legacy of Growth and Change
By the mid-1990s, the club had relocated to the Grant Road sporting complex.
In 1996, it shifted its competitive focus from the Brisbane North Junior Soccer Association to the Sunshine Coast Football zone under the umbrella of Queensland Soccer. The following year, a strategic partnership between six local sporting groups saw the club renamed Caboolture Sports Soccer Club and incorporated into the broader Caboolture Sports Club organisation, helping to secure sustainable funding and long-term viability.
The club joined the Football Brisbane competition zone in 2016 and, by 2019, had rebranded as Caboolture Sports Football Club. That same year, it moved to the Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex in Burpengary, marking a new chapter in its long, evolving history as a key player in regional football.
