Beachmere Art Festival is shaping up to be a masterpiece of connection with the community, as well as a respected art competition.

At the heart of this event, run by Beachmere Art Society, is the Beachmere Art Festival Exhibition, which encourages local artists to enter and exhibit with a total prize pool of over $3000. However, many activities across the weekend of 8 August to 10 August revolve around uniting local community groups and residents.

Beachmere Art Society President Wendy Roberts said local groups will provide free, low-cost events to encourage community engagement.

“Our community is made up of population subsets that do not usually interact, including retirees, families, recent homeowners, differently abled, young people and business owners,” Wendy said.

“It is our hope that through this event we can encourage more knowledge of our local groups, connection for those who are seeking a village, and opportunities for locals to become more creative and freer in their expression and in their lives.”

The Beachmere Art Festival brings together local groups, including Beachmere Bowls Club, Beachmere Community Gardens, U3A Beachmere, History of Beachmere, Beachmere RSL, Beachmere Community Association, and more.

Events, Workshops, and Festival Fun for Everyone

Wendy said the festival provides a cost-effective and fun alternative to going to the Ekka for the whole family.

“There are many free activities, including artist demonstrations, learn to play ukulele, logic and puzzle competitions,” she said. “Beachmere Community Garden will be conducting free edible garden tours, and there are historical art walking tours, Indigenous Storytime and even a Community Treasure Hunt.

“Some workshops charge a fee to cover materials, for example, the organic clay jewellery workshop, and an acrylic painting workshop.

“Ultimately, we hope that people have a great time and come away with a new passion or hobby that they can make their own.”

Come and admire the exhibition where many artworks are for sale, browse the stalls, participate in activities, grab a bite to eat and try your luck in the raffle. Most of all, enjoy the atmosphere of community and creativity.

Many activities (even free ones) require booking. For further information about scheduled events and how to book, check the Facebook posts at ‘Beachmere Art Society’.
