Would YOU dare to bare all for a good cause? These ladies will!

North Brisbane Theatre Company proudly presents the iconic play, Calendar Girls, from 4-13 July.

Written by Tim Firth, Calendar Girls is based on the true story of a group of middle-aged Yorkshire women who produced a nude calendar to raise money for leukaemia research under the auspices of the Knapely Women’s Institute, after the husband of one of their members died from cancer. A British film by the same name was released in 2003 and starred Helen Mirren and Julie Walters.

Director Lachlan Boyes said Calendar Girls was chosen after one of their members, Wendy Shead, brought it to the president, Bruce Noy.

“I was thrilled when asked to direct this play as it is such an incredibly important topic and one that many millions of people deal with every day,” he said.

“We are hoping to be a few extra people supporting those going through it.

“We hope audiences leave this production with a sense of purpose and hope. For those who have lost loved ones to cancer, we hope it reflects the multiple ways people deal with grief and the creative ways people can raise money for cancer.

“We also hope there are a few good laughs from the audience!”

Cast, Calendar & Ticket Details

Cast members include Dee Heath, Suzy Ellice, Ayesha Plant, Hazel Mepham, Melanie Pryde, Kris Rose, Susan Harding-Smith, Shirley Budinger, Mike Adair, Jonny Sweeper and Rebecca Quixley.

Lachlan said North Brisbane Theatre Company would be releasing their very own calendar featuring members of the cast.

“The calendar will be for sale at every show and all proceeds go directly to the Leukaemia Foundation,” he said. “We are still looking for businesses to sponsor this calendar to ensure maximum donations.”

Calendar Girls is recommended for ages 16 and over as it contains minor coarse language and heavy themes of cancer.

Ticket prices are $25 adult, $20 concession or youth and $10 child, with discounts for families or tables of eight. Cheese platters can be pre-ordered for $10.
