An artist market is raising funds for one of Australia’s most misunderstood mammals.
Critters of the Dark is coming to the Morayfield Sports and Events Centre for two days on 26 and 27 September.
Cryptic Creations Show founders, Jasmine and Paris, said the event first came to fruition out of the desire to support the alternative community.
“The idea grew from a love of beautifully curious artwork as well as the alternative community,” Paris said. “As each Cryptic market has a different theme, we wanted to choose a theme that focuses on both our passions for alternative art and love for wildlife.
“That’s how we came up with Critters of the Dark, a theme where we can embrace the strange and unusual as well as support the gothic icons of the sky.”
The event is raising funds for bat conservation, with all proceeds going to the self-funded volunteer organisation, Bat Conservation and Rescue QLD.
“We’re hoping to raise both funds and awareness for the amazing work their volunteers do rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for injured and orphaned bats,” Paris said.
“It’s a cause we’re proud to support, and we’re incredibly grateful to our artists and sponsors who have donated prizes to help make a difference.”
What to Expect at Critters of the Dark
Critters of the Dark brings together 75 independent artists and makers. There will be stalls ranging from original illustrations and jewellery to entomological art and oddities.
“One of the best parts of an artist market is meeting the people behind the work,” Paris said. “Every piece has a story, and every purchase directly supports a small creative business.”
Not only are patrons and stallholders encouraged to come along and celebrate the unique artistry of the region, but to do so in style.
Jasmine and Paris encouraged everyone to embrace the Critters of the Dark spirit.
“Whether that’s wearing something inspired by bats, moths or other nocturnal creatures…” Paris said.
“We’re so excited to welcome everyone for a weekend of incredible creativity, community, and a celebration of the spooky and beautiful critters of the dark.”
