Meals on Wheels Moreton Bay Region Inc is calling on the community for urgent assistance after severe storm damage forced the evacuation of its main kitchen in Petrie.

The charity, which provides daily meals to approximately 900 elderly clients, has been struggling to operate from a much smaller kitchen in Burpengary.

Wendy Smith, General Manager of Meals on Wheels Moreton Bay Region, said the situation was critical.

“To continue providing these essential meals, we urgently need access to a commercial kitchen space between Petrie and Caboolture,” she said. “This arrangement would be temporary, potentially lasting a few months, until we can return to our main kitchen.”

How You Can Help

The charity is looking for a community club or private commercial building with an unused kitchen that can accommodate their operations for a few months until their main kitchen is restored. Meals on Wheels is willing to pay rent and cover utilities for the space.

Wendy also appealed for any information on available grants or financial support to help with the costs of cyclone damage and relocation.

“Your immediate support is crucial in helping us continue to serve our elderly clients during this dire time,” she said.

For those able to assist, call 0414 916 955.
