Join Thrive Productions at KSP Theatre in Burpengary for their latest uproarious show The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery.
Expect chaos, with sets collapsing, forgotten lines and bizarre sound effects, all wrapped up in a play-within-a-play featuring a murder mystery, fashion parade and quiz!
Director, Susan O’Toole Cridland, said she had never directed a farce before, so this show was something new for her to sink her teeth into.
“The Farndale series is also known to be simply a fun night at the theatre – it’s a chance to be able to be a bit silly, a bit cliched, even poke a little bit of fun at ourselves while we are at it!” Susan said.
“Doing a play within a play and adding all these quirky side bits has been met with a lot of fumbles and a lot of laughs.
“The actors don’t just have the traditional challenge of learning a character and their lines, but also the characters that their character plays and which accent/person they are now.
“Especially when mistakes are written into the script itself.
“Some of the action and concepts (like the fashion parade) are so completely absurd that it gives us so much room to play and go big.”
The cast, Sandy Adsett, Claire Marchesi, Lindi Milbourne, Izabela Wasilewska and Isaiah Harrison, all play members of the Townswomen’s Guild.
“What I love about these characters is as misguided as some of them are, they truly love what they do when it comes to putting on their ‘little shows’ and play multiple parts in making their productions come to life,” Susan said.
Thrive Productions: Putting ‘Community’ Back into Community Theater
Thrive Productions was born from a shared desire among theatre lovers to put the ‘community’ back into community theatre.
“We have had so much support from so many others in the community, ensuring we have a beautiful space to perform in, incredible technical and front-of-house support, so much generosity in loaning props and costumes, that we have not faced the ‘usual’ challenges a new theatre group may face,” Susan said.
“And this really just cements for us the reason why we created Thrive Productions – because working together and helping other groups to succeed will always mean that our community theatre is, well…thriving!”
