Calling all future female scientists, engineers and tech trailblazers!

The Zonta Club of Caboolture is now accepting applications for the 2026 Sandra Cooke STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Award – a $2500 boost for a woman in City of Moreton Bay studying STEM and ready to change the world.

This prestigious award offers $2500 to a local female student of any age and nationality enrolled in a STEM program at an approved tertiary institution. Students who study online but live in City of Moreton Bay are also encouraged to apply.

The award is named in honour of Sandra Cooke, a passionate advocate for women’s education and also aligns with the broader mission of Zonta International’s Women in STEM Award, which aims to increase female representation in critical and historically male-dominated fields.

Sue Droughton, who has been a member of the Zonta Club of Caboolture for 27 years, said the award was about so much more than just financial support – it’s about empowerment.

“It’s a significant investment for our small club, but it’s worth every cent,” Sue said. “An educated woman has choices. She has the freedom to build her life, make her own decisions and stand strong if ever faced with adversity.”

Creating Opportunity Through Education and Representation

The award has already proven its impact. Sue recalled a past club guest speaker, a STEM award recipient who studied engineering at the University of Rockhampton.

“She’s worked on major infrastructure projects, including a new bridge in Rockhampton,” Sue said. “Her education has taken her around the world – from Australia to London. She’s building bridges, quite literally and figuratively.

“This $2500 can go towards textbooks, a laptop or just give a student a bit of breathing room. It’s about giving her the power to choose her own future.”

Putting their support behind women pursuing careers in STEM, the Zonta Club of Caboolture hopes to create lasting change, not just for individuals but for the wider community.

Applications for the 2026 round are now open and will close on 30 November. Women in City of Moreton Bay who are ready to take the next step in their STEM journey are encouraged to apply. Applications must include proof of enrolment in a STEM program at an accredited tertiary institution.
