Quality Ingredients and Local Pride
A Caboolture local of 25 years, Gary Thompson, owner of The Squealing Pig, said that the success of their pies is due to the top quality of the ingredients.
“We pride ourselves on offering the best and freshest meat, so none of the meat in our butcher shop window is there for more than 48 hours,” Gary said. “After that time, it goes into our pies.
“Making the pies is great use of what might otherwise be wasted.
“We’ve been making pies since 2017, entering this comp since 2019, and have always done well.
“We are primarily a butcher shop, so to have our pies highly regarded on a national level is really something.”
The pies are not The Squealing Pig’s only foray into competition. Gary is frequently part of the Australian Butcher Team, which competes in different parts of the world each year. Notable achievements for the Australian Butcher Team include coming second in Sacramento, California in 2022 and third in France in May this year.
Gary added that The Squealing Pig aims to provide high-quality gourmet meat and a vast variety of takeaway food.
“A look in the display cabinet shows a large range of raw meat and ready-to-cook meals,” he said.
“The difference in price between our meat and what supermarkets offer is not huge, but the difference in quality is.”
