What accessories did ladies have in medieval times? How were they made? For one night only, Lady Rosalie will be sharing her private collection of original artefacts and giving insight into how they were crafted at Abbey After Dark: Medieval Dress Accessories.

The event takes place on Friday, 17 April at the Abbey Museum, and begins with live entertainment and nibbles, before a journey into the world of medieval dress accessories with author, independent researcher and history enthusiast Rosalie Gilbert.

Crafting the Past: Insights for Modern Costumiers

Marketing Manager at the Abbey Museum, Kellee Neville, said the evening would appeal to costumiers, historians, needlecrafters and fans of the Abbey Medieval Festival seeking inspiration and understanding of the historical accuracy demonstrated at the festival.

“Guests can learn about the skill of crafting medieval clothing before the time of mass-production and commercial equipment, understand the materials and tools available of the time and gather ideas for your own costuming ideas for the upcoming Abbey Medieval Festival,” Kellee said.

“This is a unique chance to handle historical artefacts carefully with a white glove and examine the workmanship from hundreds of years ago.”

“When you hold a historical object in your hand, you can imagine the person it once belonged to, transcending time to the present.”

Tickets start at $45pp and include a gift bag. Find more information and or book your spots here.
