Education in the Wamuran district can be traced back to 19 April 1892, when Ferndale Provisional School began operating in a slab structure built by settler Soren Jensen.

The school took its name from Jensen’s property, Ferndale. In 1904, the school relocated to Old North Road on land donated by Mrs Appo Sami, before later moving to Bracalba in 1913. The Bracalba school closed on 2 May 1941, bringing an end to nearly fifty years of education that had served families across the district.

Wamuran School itself opened in October 1921 in the Albert Hall. Miss Barron was the first teacher, and early classes were conducted in the community building while plans for a permanent site progressed.

A Permanent Home: Growth, Expansion, and the Centenary

The establishment of the school reflected the steady growth of Wamuran as a farming settlement and the need for accessible primary education. Land for the new school was provided by Mr Butt, who owned a large parcel across from the Maurice Davis property on Old North Road. The original school building was relocated from Twin View and established on this site during the mid-1920s, creating a permanent base for the growing school community.

As enrolments increased, the school expanded. On 1 September 1951, a second building was opened below the original structure to accommodate additional students. Members of the Caboolture Brass Band played at the opening ceremony, marking an important stage in the school’s development and reflecting the strong community support for local education.

Further growth during the 1960s led to the construction of a new brick school in 1967 on land that had previously been owned by the Church of England. The site included an adjoining sports oval where Svenson’s sawmill had once stood.

The new school was officially opened on 2 December 1967. The older timber buildings were either sold for removal or transferred for church use as part of the land exchange arrangement.

On 16 October 2021, the community gathered to celebrate 100 years of schooling at Wamuran. The centenary recognised generations of students, teachers and families who have shaped the school’s history since its opening in the Albert Hall in 1921.
