Caboolture will shimmer with treasures of all kinds as the Caboolture Gem Club Inc hosts its biggest event of the year – the much-anticipated Caboolture Gemfest.
The event will take place at the Caboolture Showgrounds on Saturday, 2 August, for a day full of dazzling discoveries.
The show’s coordinator, Donna Parker, said they learned a few things from last year’s event, which was the first held at the showgrounds.
“This year, we have more knowledge and will have a better set-up,” Donna said. “There is room to grow into a bigger event at the showgrounds.”
Gemfest promises a diverse range of stalls and displays to appeal to anyone with an interest in gems, minerals, fossils and jewellery.
“We will have some amazing exhibitors with Mineral Store Australia with their minerals and fossils,” Donna said. “Sitara Crystals have these amazing geodes – when cracked open with a special geode cracker, they have amazing crystals growing inside. Karen Lillian will be there with their fantastic range of jewellery tools and silver. There will be lots of jewellery stalls.
“There will be a special fluorescent display – there are many crystals that light up under special lights. It is amazing to see.”
Family Fun, Competitions & Entry Details
The family-friendly event will also include interactive activities for children, including the return of the popular gem-sieving experience.
“Kids and even some adults love sieving for gems,” Donna said. “Kids particularly love the amethyst purple colour. Some kids who have been to the Historical Village on school excursions have come to the Gem Club to do gem sieving, and when they come to our show, they remember and get excited to show their parents what it is all about.”
When asked what she enjoyed most about the annual event, Donna said she was looking forward to seeing like-minded people coming together to discuss everything rock-related.
“I also get to see my favourite jewellery tool trader and spend all my pocket money,” she said. “We also run a level 2 competition, and I love when the members get to see their items on display.”
Caboolture Gem Club Inc, which operates out of the Caboolture Historical Village, is a small community-based group with workshop spaces dedicated to everything from faceting and polishing to silver-smithing and casting.
Entry to GemFest is $5 for adults; kids 12 and under are free. Gold coin donation for parking supports a local charity.
