Those looking to develop their writing can join a free skills-building workshop this month.
Author KM (Kate) Steele will lead ‘Jump start your writing’ at Caboolture Library on 1 July, presented by City of Moreton Bay.
Kate said the event was suitable for beginner and mid-level writers seeking inspiration and direction.
“The workshop covers basic techniques of writing, including setting the scene, creating characters, plotting a narrative arc and using figurative language,” she said.
The session includes hands-on activities designed to be accessible and fun, with participants encouraged to share only if they want to.
“All writers are welcome to choose their own level of hands-on involvement,” Kate said.
Encouraging Creativity Through Writing
Kate, who holds a PhD in English Literature and teaches at Southern Cross University, said she enjoys teaching creative writing because she loves finding words and phrases “in the wild” and incorporating them into her writing.
“Humans and the wider world are endlessly fascinating,” she said. “I enjoy sharing that fascination and inspiring others to risk stepping outside their normal boundaries when they write.
“Writing acts as a conduit for your thoughts, and in its unpublished form, remains a creative frontier that cannot be contained or censored by others. I thoroughly enjoy the freedom of the creative act of writing.”
Copies of Kate’s books will be available for purchase at the event. Bookings required. Reserve your spots here.
