If you have been looking for a family-friendly spot where you can stock up on healthy local produce over food and coffee, Plot 4504 in Narangba may fit the bill.
Dawn Finch, partner at Plot 4504, said they love creating a shopping experience that brings community connection while supplying quality, fresh, healthy produce.
“As well as shopping, most visitors come for a couple of hours to enjoy the peaceful space where they can enjoy the quiet, the views across the farm and the opportunity to meet with other locals seated under the umbrellas while enjoying a tasty brew from the coffee van,” Dawn said. “The children especially love feeding and patting the small animals who join us.
“Each Saturday and Wednesday, a large variety of seasonal, pesticide and herbicide-free vegetables and flower bunches are available along with other locally sourced produce and handcrafts.
Farmgate Experience and Family Legacy
“Some of the vegetables are not commonly found and we love introducing shoppers to these and sharing ideas on how to use them.
“New visitors to the market are always amazed that this beautiful space exists just over the hill from the bustle of suburbia, especially as the population is increasing so rapidly around here.”
Plot 4504 has been in the Finch family for many generations, originally growing crops to feed the horses that pulled the Cobb and Co coaches. Since then, until the late 1960s, it operated as a dairy farm and then converted to beef farming.
Dawn added that there had always been some family members wanting to get dirt under their fingernails, so over the years, many small crops had been produced.
“My daughter Belinda, a sixth-generation descendant of those early pioneers, was the latest of these,” she said. “Almost four years ago, she announced she would like to grow vegetables and flowers to sell at a ‘Front Gate Stall’.
“It quickly grew into a family affair with her sister Natalie and myself joining her project.”
Entry to Plot 4504 is free. Visitors can feed the farm animals for $2 a bag.
