If your not-so-real Christmas tree isn’t going to cut it this year, don’t miss out on a real tree from Morayfield Scout Group.
This opportunity marks a new chapter for the group as they team up with Brisbane North Christmas Trees for a special fundraising event that promises to spread festive cheer while supporting local youth.
On December 7 and 10, families will be able to collect their freshly cut Christmas trees from the Morayfield Scout Hall, turning the simple act of buying a tree into a moment of community connection.
Group Leader Lucy Simpson said they’d never done anything like this before.
“It’s a wonderful new challenge and we’re thrilled to work with a business that brings happiness to over a thousand families each year,” Lucy said.
“Real Christmas trees are a renewable resource that helps the environment – and who doesn’t love the festive season? It’s a time for peace, love and family throughout the world.”
For Lucy, the scent of a real Christmas tree is tied to fond childhood memories.
“There’s nothing better than the smell of a real tree in your home,” she said. “This is a great way to protect the environment instead of using plastic. Each one is unique, no two ever the same, and they even help repel pests in the Queensland summer!”
Community, Confidence, and the Scouting Journey
The Morayfield Scout Group has been part of the community for more than 40 years, working alongside local charities and organisations to help young people become confident, responsible citizens. Lucy’s own journey began when her son joined as a five-year-old. When leaders stepped down, she volunteered to help, a decision she calls “one of the greatest” she’s ever made.
Now, as the newly appointed Group Leader, Lucy said she was constantly amazed by what scouting gives back.
“Since joining Scouts, I’ve participated in countless activities and events, from canoeing to catering for over 100 leaders at a multi-district camp, and even tackling vertical adventures,” she said. “Next year, I’ll be attending my first Cuboree – a Jamboree-style camp for Cub Scouts – and I can’t wait!
“Scouting has given me so much more than I ever expected: friendship, confidence and a sense of community that continues to grow every day.”
Morayfield Scouts Group welcomes all youth from the ages of five to 18 and older scouts from the ages of 18 to 25.
Lucy invited everyone to come along, grab a Christmas tree and say hello.
“Come down for a chat and get to know your local scout group,” she said. “Who knows, you might find a new passion just like I did. Even tell us a story about when you were a scout (most people have this story and I love hearing about them).”
