Woodford Folk Festival is one of Queensland’s most iconic events, attracting thousands of visitors from across Australia and beyond.

Whether it’s your first time attending or you’re a seasoned festival-goer, now’s the time to dust off your tent, gather your gear and get ready for an immersive summer adventure when the festival returns from 27 December to 1 January.

Local mum Sam said she was counting down the days.

“We go every year – for us, it’s our family summer holiday,” Sam said. “Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Woodford Folk Festival!

“The kids love the performances, and we love the atmosphere – there’s nothing else quite like it.”

Camping is often the best way to immerse yourself in festival life, letting you eat, sleep and breathe the full program, from morning meditations to poetry, craft, dancing, and the lineup of performances on stage.

Packing for the Heat (or Rain!)

Queensland summers are hot and humid, with sudden storms common. Bring lightweight, breathable clothes, a poncho for wet weather, wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen. Don’t forget refillable water bottles, a picnic blanket for sitting between acts and a small daypack to carry your daily essentials.

Camping Essentials

A waterproof tent with good ventilation will help you stay comfortable, whatever the weather. Pack a summer-weight sleeping bag, an inflatable mattress or mat and a tarp or shade structure to protect your campsite from sun and rain. A small battery-powered fan can make those sticky nights under canvas more bearable. If you’re a light sleeper, earplugs will come in handy for those late-night drum circles!

Food and Snacks

While the festival’s food stalls offer an incredible range of mouth-watering options, it’s worth bringing some of your own supplies. Non-perishable snacks like nuts, dried fruit and energy bars will keep you going between performances. If you’re planning to cook, make sure your camping stove meets festival guidelines, and bring a cooler for drinks and fresh food.

Enjoy Yourself!

Plan your schedule, but leave room for spontaneity. With so many performances, workshops and acts, the best memories often come from the unexpected. Go with the flow, soak up the atmosphere and embrace the music, laughter, friendships and community spirit that make camping at Woodford Folk Festival unforgettable.
